Dr. Chelsea Esmeier is especially passionate about working with adolescents and college students struggling with issues of self-esteem, emotion regulation, body image, identity, and/or relationships. Particularly relevant to these populations, Dr. Esmeier is devoted to understanding how mental health is affected by the internet/social media. Dr. Esmeier also specializes in the unique presentation of ADHD in girls/women and/or those who are high-achieving. Further, she enjoys working with LGBTQ+ individuals at any stage of their journey to understanding themselves. In addition to teens and young adults, Dr. Esmeier sees clients of all ages (including younger children). She is experienced with a wide range of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment, behavior management, and health-related issues (e.g., sleep, pain, and weight management). Dr. Esmeier has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which she offers along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and other evidence-based treatments that best fit clients' needs.
In addition to providing therapy services, Dr. Esmeier is the Director of Assessment for Viewpoint. She oversees all formal evaluation procedures at the practice (click here for more info). Dr. Esmeier personally specializes in assessing for ADHD and learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia). She is committed to thorough understanding of individuals by using objective test data to inform diagnosis and treatment. This includes experience navigating academic accommodation plans and coordinating with prescribing providers, when warranted. Dr. Esmeier is a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in Kentucky. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Xavier University, where she also obtained her bachelor's/master's degrees and currently teaches in the PsyD program. She completed her doctoral internship at Dayton Children's Hospital (where she served the Sleep, Lipid, and Neurology clinics) and Wright State University's Counseling and Wellness Center. She has previously worked with college students at Xavier University's Psychological Services Center and elementary, middle, and high school students (ages 5-17) in the Erlanger-Elsmere school district (including therapy and 504/IEP evaluations). She also led DBT groups and conducted neuropsychological assessments at the Lindner Center of HOPE, working with both the adolescent and adult residential treatment programs. Finally, she completed assessments for the Center for ADHD at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Esmeier has regularly given presentations across the nation on her research projects that explore the influence of technology/social networking on psychological well-being. She completed her dissertation with students at Notre Dame Academy, studying the implications of female adolescents’ online photo editing behavior, for which she received the Frank G. and Catherine A. Miltz Mentoring and Scholarship.
