Jake Messmer is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who enjoys working with adolescents and adults. He has experience helping people from a plethora of diverse backgrounds. His clinical interests include depression, anxiety, trauma and post traumatic stress disorder, grief, chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries, and substance use disorders. Jake believes establishing a strong therapeutic alliance with his clients is vital to the counseling process. His theoretical orientation integrates Person-Centered Therapy as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. However, he often individualizes his sessions by utilizing skills and techniques from an eclectic mix of theories in order to meet the mental health needs of his clients. Jake enjoys working with clients through a wellness perspective in order to help clients thrive in all areas of well-being.

Jake received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Louisville. While at Louisville, he obtained a minor in Communications and an academic certificate in Peace, Justice, and Conflict Transformation. He then earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Kentucky University.
